What will it be like to get my portrait captured by you?

I like to be involved in the planning process. We will discuss the best approach to the portraits, and if you have something specific in mind / wish to brainstorm ideas, we will discuss how best to achieve a better shoot together. Whether you want my opinion on scheduling or what outfit flatters best, I’m here to help! No awkward posing. More documenting & natural direction.

I'm awkward in front of the camera, is that OK?

Absolutely! Most people tell us they’re awkward having their photo taken, even the ones that might look super hip and natural in our galleries. My job is to make you feel comfortable, break that awkward barrier and draw out your genuine selves. So don’t worry, you don’t need to be model pros, you just need to be honest and open - and bring your true selves.

Oh... I am still concerned about how I look in photos. Any advice?

We hear you! We all have body concerns ourselves, so we know how hard it is to be all-embracing of our selves. For individuals who may be more body-conscious, selecting the right outfit that makes you look and feel good can make a huge difference. Pay extra attention to the kind of sleeves, neckline and waistline that flatters your body shape best. An above all, be comfortable in your own skin, and come with an open heart. Authentic, natural beauty is the best.

      What should I wear?

Whatever you feel reflects your personality best! We want to capture YOU. Prior to our shoot, we will circulate some Pre-Shoot & Wardrobe Guidelines to help.

When will I get my photos?

For individual portraiture sessions, you will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within 10 - 15 days (sometimes sooner, depending on the season). You can download all the photos from the gallery but also share them, choose your favorites, and also order prints!

I'd prefer if my photos were kept private. Is that OK?

Yes. We will respect privacy and not show/display any photos from your session if you prefer us not to. Simply let us know and we will mark your photos as entirely PRIVATE and will not be viewed by anyone without your express permission.

Will you retouch / reshape / digitally alter my appearance?

We take a hard stand against photoshopping / modifying any perceived flaws or imperfections (other than the odd blemish/pimple). Instead of perpetrating a world of unreal perfection, we prefer to employ a more natural technique to bring out the best in you through good lighting and body positioning - and capture the best (and real) you.

During our shoot, we look out for your best angles, and will also direct on body positioning if necessary. If, after receiving the images, there remains areas of concern, feel free to let us know and we will do our best to satisfy your preferences.

That said, we hope you will trust us in what we do, and celebrate individuality and your own natural beauty!

I think I'm ready, now what?

We would love chat more! Get in touch and let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll make it happen, capt’n!

      How do you photograph weddings?

I love being part of the process to help you before your wedding day. We will discuss your schedule and the best moments for the couple photos, the different lights... and it's really exciting for me to know the details of your big day, specially those that bear special meaning to you and your families! On your wedding day, all I want to capture is the feelings, the mood, the emotions, the calm and crazy moments and all the details that make your wedding unique. That's why I decided to photograph non-traditional an intimate celebrations.

How do you approach each shoot?

After discussing our shoot goals, we’ll fix a date for our shoot. At each step of the way, there will be lots of communication! On the day of our shoot, I will refrain from intervening with how the day unfolds, save for some key moments (such as offering some direction for family portraits, parents’ veiling of the bride, or bridal entourage portraits). I’ll direct and prompt a lil, while photographing what happens naturally. It’s less about the posing and more about the direction and little nudges I give you. I’ll ask questions, get you talking, and bring out those natural responses! We will of course be able to capture posed family group photos for grandma to frame.

That said, for the rest of the day, I keep it mostly documentary, capturing the natural moments as they happen. I won’t step in and change the naturally occurring emotion. I want to capture how you felt, the mood, the “outtakes”, and the unscripted moments. that will tell stories for generations to come.

Don't you get bored capturing so many couples / weddings?

Not at all! Over the years I have come to realise that my passion for photography is more a passion for humanity. People who are true to themselves – what I like to refer to as “free-range” humans. :)

My work is therefore founded in an aesthetic that reveals a kind of beauty that is innate, almost effortless. And because everyone is unique, I am ever-intrigued by the interactions and emotions that unfold, and the challenge to capture all that in a gorgeous, timeless way.

We are awkward in front of the camera, is that OK?

Is there a limit to where you will travel to?

Not at all! I am currently based in Singapore but I’m always up for an adventure. Some destinations I have travelled to for shoots include Australia, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, London, New York, Mexico Greenland, and recently Cuba. I'd love to work out an economical way to travel and frequently defray costs with various other assignments in the same area. Get in touch at hello@studiokel.com and I’ll be able to advise you better.

      What should we wear?

Whatever you feel reflects your personality best! We want to capture YOU. Prior to our shoot, we will circulate some Pre-Shoot & Wardrobe Guidelines to help you prepare.

      Do you back up?

Always. We treat our job seriously and take all steps to ensure that each shoot is simultaneously recorded on at least two memory cards, and subsequently backed up when we return to our studio to an on-site and off-site NAS. We will leave nothing to chance.

When will we receive our photos?

For engagements and wedding celebrations, you can expect to receive the full collection within 3 - 6 weeks.

We know everyone is excited to view the images pronto, so we always try our best to complete the images sooner than the usual, without compromising the quality of our work product. Your patience is appreciated during this time :)

How many pictures can we expect to receive?

For a 8 hours coverage wedding, you will receive between 550 to 700 fully edited images, sometimes more! I always choose quality rather than quantity. Trust us to select the best and more significant photos to tell your story. We seek to bring you the fullest story of your day.

How will we receive our images?

We care about the earth, and have opted to deliver your images via a private password-protected online gallery of your images, with immediate digital download of all files. This allows you to easily share the images with others. In the event you prefer a physical drive, feel free to request for a thumb-drive of your images instead.

Do we have to engage a hair & make-up artist?

We love the au natural look, and are more than happy for you to come to your shoot as you are, without any need for professional hair and make-up. However, if you feel the urge to pamper yourself, we are happy to recommend some wonderful make-up artists who we partner with - the industry's very best that will bring out your best features.

Will you retouch / digitally alter our appearance?

We like what we see, now what?

I would love chat more! Get in touch and let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll make it happen, capt’n!

      How do you photograph families?

Over the years, we’ve come to realise that we like photos like our salad. Raw, organic, and good for the soul. Our Chief Photographer Kel is an ‘extroverted introvert’ – i.e. she thrives on the spontaneous, and can power the house, but recharges best with quiet time. For this reason, we specialise in documenting intimate weddings and elopements, families wildly free, and individuals vulnerable and brave. Be it a milestone, or an every-day moment, we would love capturing your story.

We are camera shy and awkward turtles in front of camera. Any advice?

We get you! Most of us feel strange being photographed too. But don't worry, sessions are conducted in a journalistic fashion that incorporates lost of play and bonding. Prior to our session, we will also circulate simple Pre-Shoot Guidelines to help you prepare your home and mentally prepare your little one(s) for us to achieve a better shoot together. Just be yourself, and it will be great!

Will we be a good fit?

If you like keeping it real, we believe we would be a great fit. No stiff poses. Just the real you. Every gorgeous bit of it. Let us eternalise your sun-kissed freckles, that sparkle in your eye, or the beautiful mess of your world.

How many pictures will we receive?

We believe that photos captured should be a family's keepsake forever, and do not believe in hidden costs for additional photos captured during our time together. Thus, if the shoot goes more smoothly than usual, you can expect to receive a lot more images than the minimum number of images stated for each package - at no additional costs. In other words, you will receive the fullest collection of memories, with our compliments.

When will we get our photos?

Your will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within 2 - 3 weeks (sometimes sooner, depending on the season). You can download all the photos from the gallery but also share them, choose your favorites, and also order prints!

Can you help us with albums / canvas prints / other framed prints?

We would love to! Studiokel partners with some excellent printers offering great quality prints at preferential rates. Simply let us know and we will send you the options offered. This is an after-care service we offer all Studiokel families. Check out our Albums & Prints page here to find out more: https://studiokel.mypixieset.com/prints-albums
